NJR
Meeting with the Manufacturers
May 15, 2025
π-RIPI (Creation of the prototype of the National Registry of Implantable Prostheses (RIPI) data collection platform) is a project started within the Spoke 2 (Technology transfer, new entrepreneurship, business incubation and acceleration) of the NextGenerationEU project Rome Technopole and is carried on in cooperation with BVTech and Confindustria-DM, both partners of Rome Technopole and coordinators of the Flagship Project FP4 (Development, innovation and certification of medical and non-medical devices for health).
The RIPI registry was established at the Istituto Superiore di Sanità in 2017 (DPCM 3/3/2017) to monitor, at the national level, the safety of the implanted prostheses and to ensure patient quick traceability in case of adverse event (recall). It is conceived as an umbrella covering a set of registries each referred to a specific class of medical devices. The Italian Arthroplasty Registry (RIAP) is one of the registries considered by RIPI to monitor safety and effectiveness of joint prostheses. In 2021, ISS signed an agreement with the National Joint Registry (NJR) to be allowed to access the NJR Component Classification and Database.
The objective of π-RIPI is to design the platform supporting the RIPI data collection and to implement the module relevant to the identification and characterization of the joint prostheses and to interconnect it with other existing international databases.
On May 15 and 16, 2025 a meeting was held at ISS aimed to set up and agree on the operational requirements needed to ensure the interconnection and interoperability of π-RIPI with the NJR Component Database. One session was dedicated to meet the Industry.
